Part 10: Organic and free range

Organic meat involves animal cruelty in the same way as non organic. The organic label simply means that the animals were not fed hormones and antibiotics or food that contains pesticides. It has nothing to do with the way the animals are treated and has nothing to do with animal cruelty.

Animal products labeled cage free or free range are an unsupervised marketing term. These labels have no standards and the industry can use it as it pleases. Eggs stamped with these labels still involve animal cruelty including killing male chicks by grinding them alive, searing beaks off, and killing egg laying hens by electrocution after a couple of years. The only difference is that in some cases, the chicken would have a slightly bigger living space.
