Part 9: No joy without meat?

When the Talmud says there is no joy (simcha) without meat this explicitly refers only to sacrificial meat. When the temple does not exist, rejoicing is with wine (תלמוד בבלי, פסחים ק”ט ע”א). “Rabbi Yehuda ben Beteira says: When the Temple is standing, rejoicing is only through meat, as it is stated: ‘And you shall sacrifice peace offerings and you shall eat there and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God’. And now that the Temple is not standing rejoicing is only by wine, as it is stated: ‘And wine that gladdens the heart of man’”
